Adrian's Biography in His Own Words:
One of the first things I remember is my grandma's portable record player, which while not quite a "Walkman", played all day, even though grandma only had one record: "A Tonga Da Mironga Do Kabuletê" by Toquinho. And grandma sang along and taught me loads of traditional songs like La Paloma. A few years later, in Simango, our local supermarket cum record library, I discovered "King of the blues guitar" by Albert King. I took it home on a long term loan basis (I really must return it one day) and when diamond touched vinyl on the turntable, I was stunned as a jack rabbit: I was twelve and all I could think about was playing the guitar like Albert King. The next day at school I told everyone I was a guitar player and I believed it myself even though I didn't know a single chord. Now and again somebody would produce a Spanish guitar and demand I play something. I made excuses and said I wasn't in the mood or my mojo wasn't workin'… Finally my mum relented and bought me an electric guitar on the condition that I stopped pestering her. I was 13 and had my first guitar. It wasn't long before I needed an amplifier… One of the greatest influences in my life has been my brother Carlos, who showed me how to find my style and the musicians who have moved me most like Howlin' Wolf, Paul Butterfield, Snooks Eaglin, Johny Guitar Watson, Booker T & the MGs, Junior Wells, Mike Bloomfield, Stevie Wonder...etc, etc… So thanks to you all from the bottom of my soul. Where would I be without you brothers and sisters?
