Gladys Bentley was a big, bold, butch lesbian blues singer in the 1920's though the 1940's, when there just were no others like her. And this 58-minute show highlights her story and her music. A special feature of this presentation is three unreleased recordings by her, from circa 1939, aired in a medley at the 32:30 mark. The lyrics of the medley are mildly risqué, so you may want to preview to judge if too much so for your audiences or air time. This is the only section of the show that may have any concerns.

It’s a huge site, with over 1800 pages, and growing. Since January 2000 QMH has been dedicated to sharing and preserving music of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered community

The show airs monthly on KPFT-FM in Houston as a part of the program Queer Voices, but almost every month has additional hours featured on the website.
