ON MARCH 11 OF THIS YEAR, FIFTY FOOT HIGH SEA WAVES FROM AN EARTHQUAKE-INDUCED TSUNAMI SLAMMED INTO THE FUKUSHIMA NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ON THE NORTH-WEST COAST OF JAPAN DESTROYING ITS ELECTRIC BACK-UP SYSTEMS. IN THE FOLLOWING DAYS THREE OF THE SIX REACTORS WENT INTO FULL MELTDOWN AND IMAGES OF HYDROGEN EXPLOSIONS AND BELLOWING FIRES COULD BE SEEN ON TELEVISIONS AROUND THE WORLD FOR DAYS. SINCE THEN, HOWEVER, THE FUKUSHIMA DISASTER HAS FADED FROM THE NEWS, REPLACED WITH OTHER CATASTROPHES AND CONFLICTS. THIS PAST FRIDAY, A DELEGATION OF ORGANIC FARMERS AND ANTI-NUCLEAR ACTIVISTS TRAVELLED FROM JAPAN TO THE NEW YORK AREA TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON THE SITUATION.
