This is the full 8-9-10 episode of the Labor Express Radio program.

On this weeks episode of Labor Express Radio we make good on a promise we made weeks ago. In June, I announced that Labor Express would devote time to looking at the issue of pensions and retirement security in the coming months, and today we finally make good on that claim. Will hear from Karen Friedman, Executive Vice President and Policy Director for the Pension Rights Center, about the attack on defined pension benefit plans in this country and how working people can join the center in their efforts to defend and improve retirement security.

In the second half of today’s program will hear from Karen Lewis, the recently elected president of the Chicago Teachers Union. Will hear a speech she delivered at a “Save Our Schools” public forum held on July 24th by the new leadership of the union. In that speech Karen talks about the union’s efforts to fight the school boards attempt to force contract changes on the union mid-contract under a threat of more lost jobs and increased class sizes.
