This Saturday August 20th, the Beehive Design Collective will hold a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Machais Valley Grange Hall (Maine, USA), of which they are the steward. The Bees have been working hard on the building, in addition to the creation of their political art and ongoing popular education, to make a space for cultural and community activities.
On this 100th anniversary, the hall will bring together the past grangers from the populist farmers organization, with numerous activists and artists that have participated in or have been inspired by the work of the Beehive Collective. The Beehive Collective will be celebrating its 5th anniversary. Speakers and musicians from 12 to 4pm will include activist singer songwriter David Rovics and Maine musician and member of the newly formed label Riot Folk, Ethan Miller. Dinner will be from 4-5pm, and the ceremony including further celebration with musicians and speakers will be from 5-8pm.

Their work can be seen throughout the world, as indeed they do not claim it as only their work, but a collaboration with peoples movements everywhere. Their work also includes mosaics, including the Biodiversity Crossroads mural being worked on for the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA) Common Ground fairgrounds. We spoke with one of the bees, Kehban, on the phone from Macias about the Beehive Collectives work and next weekends celebration.
