The vast majority of the uranium in the Hiroshima bomb was converted into ceramic nano particles of of uranium, not into the energy of the explosion, due to extreme pressure, which terminated criticality shortly after it was reached. It would have converted to and nano sized ceramic particle similar to the uranium Sr Rosalie Bertell describes. Survivors reported a "black rain" falling on them which in the moment and later could allow the internalization of the radioactive material.
