Frank Chapman of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (CAARPR), which has been leading the fight for police accountability in Chicago, spoke to members of Chicago DSA at a strategy meeting to help win a Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC). He provided a brief history of the role of the police from slavery to the murder of Fred Hampton and Mark Clark, to present. He addressed the weaker alternatives Mayor Lightfoot has put forward, why CPAC is important to advocate for, and next steps for Chicago DSA in this fight.

Chicago has the CPAC ordinance before the City Council, six solid alderman supporting and 7 others that campaigned in favor of it. Chicago's last mayoral election was historic for a number of reasons, one being how the grass roots campaign for CPAC influenced the results.
