Press Conference to announce next step in the campaign to end police impunity for killing and brutalizing Black and Latino youth in Chicago. The Civilian Police Accountability Council (CPAC) ordinance would do that. Alderman Rosa announces his plan to force the legislation out of the Public Safety Committee, where it has been bottled up by Mayor Emanuel's minions, to a City Council floor vote by invoking Rule 41.
CPAC is a element of the Chicago Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression's campaign in coalition with others to win community control over the Chicago Police Department that, following the murder of Laquan McDonald and its cover up, helped force the release of the video of CPD officer Jason Van Dyke shooting the teen 16 times; caused merchants the loss of a billion dollars of Black Friday sales when it marched on Michigan Avenue to get the attention of Chicago's elites who were too comfortable with the racist status quo; forced Van Dykes indictment for murder where he was found guilty in a jury trial; forced removal of the corrupt former Cook County States Attorney Anita Alverez when she was defeated by Kim Fox; and ended the political career of Mayor Rahm Emanuel in Chicago in part for his attempted cover up of the murder just ahead of his election to a second term.
Speakers include SEIU Local 73, Chicago Teachers Union, Mariel Johnson, mother of police torture survivor Michael Johnson, candidates for alderman, community justice activist and a candidate for City Clerk who notes that 20 million dollars in civil judgments against CPD Jason Van Dyke had been authorized by the Mayor and City Council prior to the murder of Laquan McDonald.

Press Conference held on 2nd floor, out side of the Chicago City Council chambers. After 30 minutes city official cut the audio and started to pack up the equipment that the City provides for such events. Break in the recording while I disconnected from press multi box and placed a mic on the podium.
