The diagnosis: colonialism. The prognosis: full recovery. The treatment: resistance. And the formula for successful recovery: diversity.

Among Mazin Qumsiyeh's impressive qualifications are his MD degree and genetics professorship at Yale School of Medicine. Thus the basic outline summarized above. In this riveting presentation recently at the Community Church of Boston, he explains why we must recognize, celebrate, and cultivate diversity in all matters. This applies to the environment and to human community building. It also means one democratic state for Palestine/"Israel", ending apartheid forever.

For some background on Qumsiyeh and his primary love, we quote from thisweekinpalestine.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/The-Palestine-Museum-of-Natural-History.pdf: "As a child, Dr. Mazin Qumsiyeh, the founder of the Palestine Museum of Natural History (PMNH) at Bethlehem University, used to accompany his uncle Sana to the field and thus fell in love with nature. Qumsiyeh was 13 years old when his uncle died, and that is when he resolved to fulfill not only his uncle’s mission of doing research on mammals but also his dream of building a museum. Qumsiyeh, who has taught at Duke and Yale universities, now teaches at Bethlehem and Birzeit universities. He has published more than 140 scientific papers on topics ranging from systematics to biodiversity to cancer. He has also published several books, including Bats of Egypt, Mammals of the Holy Land, Sharing the Land of Canaan, and Popular Resistance in Palestine.”

For those interested, we have included separately a raw unedited recording of the 35-minute Q&A session. Finally, go to youtube.com/watch?v=4xTTHYOvwgU to see an informal video of this event, including some of his slides. Qumsiyeh is a passionate, tireless, and also fun presenter!
This Week In Palestine (a weekly 8am feature of Truth and Justice Radio (TJR)) is an award-winning 45-minute (or more) segment of news from Palestine and discussion of issues relevant to the Palestinians' struggle for freedom from Israel's brutal military occupation and colonization of their homeland. It speaks from the point of view of Palestinians and those who care about them. TJR is aired Sundays 6-10am ET on WZBC 90.3FM, Newton, MA, also streamed live and archived for two weeks at wzbc.org; TJR's modest website, truthandjusticeradio.org, has a link to This Week In Palestine archives back thru 1-6-2008; editions are also accessible at radio4all.net or by navigating through our playlists. TJR sometimes airs Palestine coverage IN ADDITION to that provided by This Week In Palestine. We hope you'll write to us at tjradio@fastmail.com if you rebroadcast our work or have questions or comments.
