Trending in recent weeks is the idea of so-called 'fake news' on the internet, with impacts in the political realm, such as the unexpected election of Donald Trump. The 'fake news' of concern is on sites which purportedly disseminate 'Russian propaganda.' This week's episode of the Global Research News Hour examines the way US elite interests are deliberately instigating uncertainty about independent and particularly dissident news media. First we hear from Toronto-based journalist and media critic Barrie Zwicker about the PropOrNot site which is purportedly 'outting' the major sources of this fake news, and whether America is returning to an age of McCarthyite 'witch-hunting' and whether a similar phenomenon may be materializing in Canada.
