The Whistle-blower tool wikileaks has proven to be a valuable tool in terms of providing much needed transparency into government decisions and operations affecting the public interest. But is there are there any hazards or downsides associated with these populist cyber watchdogs?

Wikileaks disclosed alarming revelations about the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) currently being negotiated in secrecy.

Using the TPP as a case study, Melbourne based scholar and writer Binoy Kampmark examines the potential of Wikileaks and other whistle-blower platforms as an effective check and balance in an increasingly corporatized world.

Binoy Kampmark recently presented in Winnipeg, Canada at the Geopolitical Economy Research Group Conference on the subject of Terror, Information and State Secrecy. He spoke to the Global Research News hour about his research on October 2, while TPP trade talks have been underway in Atlanta.

Binoy Kampmark is a former Commonwealth Scholar at Selwyn College in Cambridge. He currently lectures at RMIT University in Melbourne Australia.
