Notes: This is a weekly program which began on a now defunct low power FM station (KSOW) in Cottage Grove, OR. Since there seems to be some interest in the show I have decided to continue it. In this connection I will post a new show by Tuesday or Wednesday of each week. There is also a 64 bit version.
In the main, each episode consists of four approximately 30-minute long programs (not always, as sometimes I use a longer form show, so it may be 3 or fewer) and some filler to bring them in at 120 minutes. .
Broadcast Advisories
Use these programs in any way that suits you, commercial, non-commercial (well,don't sell it). Use them on your low power FM station or your AM station. Stream it on your internet station or stream. Whatever. Edit them if you want to, however you want to! I'm easy. In a few cases commercials have been left in but in those cases there is disclaimer stating that they are there for "historical perspective" only. I have edited out any underwriter spots that once existed. There is no comment about run times ( i.e. "It's Sunday night at 10 pm and this is Night Transmissions.") Also I have edited out any mention of the town I live in. In other words I have endeavored to make make these programs as "Evergreen" and global as possible. I would even consider making (at some point) shows that are tailored to some degree for specific locations. In most cases the mp3 file runs a little longer than 120 minutes. However, in all cases the main show comes in at under 120 minutes; anything in excess of 120 minutes is just music that can safely be faded out.
As of show 21 there are 30 second musical interludes at 30,60 and 90 minutes. with the last 5 to 10 minutes or so of the show uninterrupted music that can be faded out on without too much ado, Exact times will be in the mp3 comment tag

Murer at Midnight 12/16/46, âMurder Is a Lonely Businessâ.
Another story, which proves that company in crime doesnât pay. The nefarious is best pursued alone.
The program opens in a cemetery where a burial is taking place. The narrative moves alternatively into the thoughts of the two main characters demonstrating a lack of respect, a lack of trust between them.

Murder At Midnight debuted on The American Broadcasting Company on September 16, 1946 but within two years was airing over Mutual and several independent affiliates throughout the United Sates. The show was as much a crossover supernatural thriller as crime drama. With Raymond Morganâs rich yet ominous introductions the show was reminiscent of competing series, The Strange Dr. Weird, Quiet! Please, Inner Sanctum and Lights Out!.
Although most of the Mutual Networks mystery series were, in general, done on the cheap. Murder At Midnight was one of the exceptions. According to an article in âBillboard magazineâ from the era. Talent and production costs for Murder At Midnight averaged about $5000 per program, one of the higher costs for a syndicated program at that time.
The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) began life as, âThe Blue Networkâ. It was formed in the crucible of the FCC ordered break up of the NBCâs âRed and Blue networksâ in 1942. NBC sold the âBlue networkâ to conservative a businessman, Edward J. Noble for $8,000,000. Noble was the owner of the Rexall Drug store chain. And, maybe more importantly, the originator of Life-Savers candies which really made his fortune. The American Broadcasting Company as a corporate entity would come into existence in January of 1946 after three years of transition when it was known as simply, âThe Blue Networkâ. Segment Two:
This story takes us back to the time of King George the third of England. It is a story of an ordinary man by the name of Samuel Jones who had the extraordinary profession of state executioner.
One of the most famous shows of all time, even those not interested in Old-Time Radio have generally heard of Lights Out. Created by Willis Cooper in 1934, and passed on to Arch Oboler in 1936, the series went through several incarnations and reincarnations throughout its long life, lasting until 1947. The exact number of episodes is a nebulous issue, since Oboler frequently renamed episodes several times over for rebroadcast, expanded the length of some of Cooperâs shows, and freely moved shows back and forth between Lights Out and his other projects with re-edited intros, making it very difficult to identify episode origins with any degree of certainty. To make matters worse, many shows have been lost over the years.
I sure enjoy the fact that the Libervox exists. It certainly helps in the timing of this show⦠so many short recordings of excellent material. This segment features two short pieces from the Libervox project. The first is, Wind And Fog by Lord Dunsany. This is followed by a short traditional English folk tale, How Jack Went to Seek His Fortune. There are a number of these, âJack Talesâ (including Jack and the Beanstalk ) in English folklore. Alien Worlds was an American syndicated radio show that produced 26 episodes in 1979 beginning on January 7th. With its excellent soundtrack and production standards The successful series eventually would play on over 500 radio stations all over the country. Between 1979 and 1980 the series found even more success internationally after it was picked up in New Zealand and Australia.
The stories involve the governing body for the development and exploration of space, the I.S.A. (International Space Authority). Organized by all earth nations, the ISA advances the interests of humans in interstellar space. Their base is officially named âThe Arthur C. Clarke Astronomical Observatoryâ but is mostly referred to as, âStarlabâ. From here a small cadre of scientists diplomats and explorers and a computer named after Sherlockâs smarter older brother Mycroft, undertake awesome responsibilities as humanities emissaries to the stars.
Aside from the 26 programs that were broadcast; there were four more produced but never aired. The episode today, â A Dream within a Dreamâ is one of those.
ISA researchers on a visit to the planet Tamerlaine report strange happenings involving a black cat and other weird goings-on. Then all communications cease. This, of course prompts Starlabâs crew to mount a search and rescue mission.
Arriving on the planet,soon âthe rescuersâ, find themselves falling into a deep sleep and dreaming a single common dream of entering an illusionary world apparently created by one of the most profound literary giants of all time. Segment Four:
Is another Libervox Project reading, this time a Charles Dickens story, The Trial for Murder.
âThe Trial For Murderâ is not, despite its name the Court Room Drama you might be expecting. It is instead a ghost story set in a courtroom. It is the tale of an English juror who is haunted by an angry ghost seeking justice on his murderer; The man who is on trial for the foul deed in that very courtroom.
Does the author really need an introduction? One of the best-known English novelists, particularly famous today for helping to shape Christmas as we know it â and for contributing significantly to the tradition of the Christmas ghost story. While primarily a writer of realist novels characterized by his trademark concern with issues of social inequality and injustice, Dickens wrote a number of shorter ghostly pieces, many of which share the social and humanitarian concerns of his novels, and his role as a magazine editor and owner put him in a position to help shape the market for supernaturalist fiction.
