These talks are part of a seminar held by The Madison Institute in honor of its founder, Midge Miller who died in April 2009. Midge was a member of the Wisconsin Legislature from 1970-1985 and worked tirelessly on progressive politics for the remainder of her life.
This event, "Progressive Visionâ¦Progressive Voices" examines two issues, the role of government in a capitalist society and the role of filibusters. The first speaker is Professor Carin Clauss of the University of Wisconsin Law School. Her talk is titled Supermajority, Filibusters and Democracy and is followed by an audience discussion.
Second speaker is David Newby, President of Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. His talk is titled, "The Role of Government in a Capitalist Society" and is also followed by an audience discussion.
