The NBA players took a political stand against racist police brutality, stopping the championship playoffs. It is remarkable that professional athletes would take such a step. Their action indicates how severe the issue of racial discrimination has become. In a way, these athletes have become political leaders in a country where the ruling parties have failed and repressed the people.

Otis Richmond, reviews the history of resistance by courageous black athletes that set the stage for this latest epic moment.
