Stephen Gowans, author of America's Long War On Syria

Phil interviews Stephen Gowans about his recent article, which is entitled "We should applaud the Syrian military’s actions in Idlib, not deplore them."

Gowans turns on its ear the US / UN and MSM critique of the Syrian campaign to liberate the province of Idlib, which Brett McGurk has described as "the largest safe haven for Al Qaeda in the world." Rather than being critical of the Syrian government for dislodging Al Qaeda terrorists from its own territory, especially as they were maintaining an oppressive occupation on behalf of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the USA, Gowans argues the world should laud Syria for protecting its own citizens and borders from foreign aggression, and driving out internationally-condemned terrorist organizations.

This military campaign by Syria would not have been necessary if Turkey had lived up to its comittments in the Sochi Agreement to remove terrorists from the Idlib DeEscalation Zone. In addition, Phil notes that the Syrian Arab Army has a quite different modus operandi in fighting the terrorists than does the USA. The US approach to liberating Raqqa, for instance, involved destroying 85% of the city and killing thousands of Syrian citizens in a country in which the USA didn't even have permission to operate.

The SAA, on the other hand, selectively tries to target terrorists and their assets, and open protected corridors for civilians to escape the fighting. These corridors and the civilians who use them are routinely fired upon by the terrorists. According to Gowans, the SAA is undertaking the necessary task which benefits the whole world.
