Phil catches Stephen Gowans on the street to discuss his searing new article about Noam Chomsky.
Chomsky, commenting on the complex foreign intervention against Syria, is calling on the U.S. to maintain a military presence there in order to 'protect the Kurds.'
Gowans disputes Chomsky's reasoning.
1. The occupation isn't 'small' as Chomsky alleges. Besides ground troops, there's the U.S.-directed YPG, and the massive power of the U.S. Air Force.
2. Chomsky ignores the purpose of the U.S. occupation, which is to weaken Syria and its control over its own oil, and block transit between Syria, Iraq, and Iran.
Does Chomsky have a tenuous grasp of the facts, or is he a sophist? And why does he rely on Western power to sort things out?
